Do you ever meet those people who enjoy the brutally hot days we have in Kansas, and not only do they enjoy it, they have that summer elusive glow and radiance? Meanwhile you feel like you just walked out of a spinning class and the only glow you see is the sun as you lie on the ground recovering? Here’s the secret, no matter which person you are, you both need the same basic skincare needs to help maintain your summer glow.
Watch Out for Dehydration
With July in mind the heat will be dehydrating our skin and if you’re like me you’re going to see an increase in your oil production from the heat and humidity. This is where a look at your skin care products comes into play. If your skin is dehydrated, feeling irritated or dry, stick to a milky cleanser to address this issue, along with a hydrating serum with a hyaluranic acid formula, we suggest our Hydrate Super Moisture Serum.
If you’re noticing excess oil, don’t confuse it with dehydrated skin because that can also cause an increase in oil production, use a gel cleanser that will cut through the excess sebum and dissolve pore build-up, like our Control Yourself Gel Cleanser. To hydrate oily skin, absorb shine, control oil production and inhibit breakouts use our Absorb Mattifying Serum to help give you a fresh, matte finish.
You are What You Eat (and Drink!)
Hydration is key, but it’s a lot more than just drinking water! This is where we need to look at diet because your outside is a reflection of what’s going on on the inside. This summer make sure to drink plenty of water because the heat will be depleting our bodies of it so start drinking some high quality H2O.
Besides drinking water make sure that you’re eating it as well. One of my favorite summer foods is watermelon. Yum! Watermelon is 92% water, not to mention low in calories and high in vitamins C and A, rich in antioxidants this is one food that is an all around win! Other foods we like to eat? Strawberries, peaches, cucumbers and lettuce. Make sure when you’re at the farmer’s market this weekend you pick up what’s in season. On Saturday’s we like to go to Old Town Farmers Market and get as much local, organic produce as possible.
And the last and very important skincare recommendation I’ll be making is sun protection. I cannot express enough the importance of using sun protection every single day! This is the number one way to protect you skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays and help prevent premature aging caused by the sun. Swing by the spa to pick up Sun Bum (on special this month!) and protect yourself before you wreck your skin!
